MOLD — A Seed is an Ark Through the Portal

In moments of ecological, political, and spiritual crisis, our ancestors turned to seeds — tiny vessels of memory, hope, and regeneration. A seed is an ark: carrying within it the intelligence and potential of futures not yet imagined.

MOLD — A Seed is an Ark Through the Portal was a multi-format, reflective exhibition and gathering space that invited participants to consider the seed as both literal sustenance and a metaphor for radical ideas, acts of care, and collective futures. Inspired by Arundhati Roy’s idea of crisis as a portal between worlds, this project asked: What seeds will we carry forward? What needs to be left behind?

Key highlights included:

  • MOLD Magazine: Seeds (Issue 05) — a print and digital exploration of seeds as cultural, ecological, and political archives.

  • Suneil Sanzgiri’s Two Refusals (Would We Recognize Ourselves Unbroken?) (2023) — a two-channel video installation reflecting on memory, belonging, and ancestral knowledge.

  • A Seed Library by the Goa State Biodiversity Board, offering rare and local seeds for exchange and reflection.

  • The Food Book and Zine Library, collaboratively hosted by Edible Issues and MOLD, featuring independent publications on food, land, seed sovereignty, and future food systems.

  • A community Dosa Picnic by Kinky Kashayam, celebrating conviviality, fermentation, and sharing as acts of cultural and ecological care.

Key questions the exhibition posed:

  • What can seed intelligence teach us about designing regenerative, care-based food systems?

  • How do we nurture the seeds of liberation: ideas, paradigms, and practices needed to flourish in more just, resilient futures?

  • Which edible, intellectual, and cultural seeds must we safeguard as we pass through this portal into new ways of living and eating?

About MOLD Magazine:
